Day XXXVI: Tuesday of Holy Week

Gospel Reading of the Day

From the holy Gospel according to

JUDAS LEAVING THE CENACLE.

Reclining at table with his disciples, Jesus was deeply troubled and testified, "Amen, amen, I say to you, one of you will betray me." The disciples looked at one another, at a loss as to whom he meant. One of his disciples, the one whom Jesus loved, was reclining at Jesus' side. So Simon Peter nodded to him to find out whom he meant. He leaned back against Jesus' chest and said to him, "Master, who is it?" Jesus answered, "It is the one to whom I hand the morsel after I have dipped it." So he dipped the morsel and took it and handed it to Judas, son of Simon the Iscariot. After Judas took the morsel Satan entered him. So Jesus said to him, "What you are going to do, do quickly." Now none of those reclining at table realized why he said this to him. Some thought that since Judas kept the money bag, Jesus had told him, "Buy what we need for the feast" or to give something to the poor. So Judas took the morsel and left at once. And it was night. Personal Reflection on the Reading

Sharing for the Day

"And it was night." Sin is usually conducted in the dark, in hiding, in secret. But Jesus our Lord said that nothing is hidden forever, everything will be disclosed [see Matthew 10:26; Mark 4:22; Luke 8:17]

We must never forget that God sees everything and to Him nothing can be hidden. As Pope St Clement stated, "... all things lie open to His eyes and ears ..." This is something that we must not consider as a violation of our human right to privacy; instead, we must consider it as our assurance of getting whatever justice we deserve to have which upon this earth seems so hard to get.

As Christians, we must leave behind all the nights of our lives, and step out of the dark. We are called to walk during the day, and bask in the Lord's brightness. "I am the light of the world and anyone who follows me will never walk in darkness but have the light of life," says the Lord [John 8:12; see also 1 John 1:6 John 1:4; 9:5; 12:35, 46]. And by being His followers, we also become light [see Matthew 5:14; see also Proverbs 4:18; Philippians 2:15].

As it is written in Proverbs 4:18,

"The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day."
