JESUS' TRIUMPHANT ENTRY TO JERUSALEM.

Indeed it was a triumphant entry by the Lord Jesus into Jerusalem for the Pharisees and the elders had nothing to say but, "Look! The whole world has gone after him!" [John 12:19b]

Perhaps the people hoped that this time the Lord would not hide Himself anymore from them unlike when He escaped after the multiplication of bread when they wanted to take Him to be their king that very moment; that He would already directly claim that He is the Messiah that the Jewish nation was waiting for: the Messiah who will sit upon the throne of David and free the Chosen People from bondage to the Romans and other powerful nations of the time!

They wanted a King, much like when their ancestors came to see Samuel and demanded that he tell God of their need of a king just like the other countries surrounding them. They were tired of the Judges whom God sends them in time of need, they wanted to have someone to be always there so that someone would defend them at the first notice of war.

But Jesus' kingship was more of the young David's work: a shepherd. He would not lead the people to battle, but He assures them of being defended from bears, wolves and lions. He would not be a king to mount upon a war horse for He came simply upon a young donkey. He was not a king according to human standards but a king according to the Father's heart!

And so the people were frustrated. That's why just after a few days, His triumphant entry to Jerusalem to the cries of "Hosanna to the Son of David!" has been turned into voices of anger: "Crucify him! Crucify him!"

This King whom they killed because He wouldn't lead a small nation as an earthly ruler has become the head of more than a billion today through His visible representative, the Pope!
