"As the Father loves me, so I also love you.
Remain in my love."
How do we remain in the Lord's love?
We remain in the Lord's love by loving one another as He loved us. The Lord's love is the only truly sensible kind of love for it is the only love which produces so much not by keeping it but by sharing it. The Apostle Paul writes, "God loves a cheerful giver" [2 Corinthians 9:7; see also Exodus 25:2; Deuteronomy 15;10; 1 Chronicles 29:9; Proverbs 11:25; Romans 12:8]. We must give love without counting the cost and we shall receive love without being asked for a price.
Remaining in God's love means being faithful up to the end even if we have to face persecutions and death. It also means being sincerely hopeful for the things of heaven keeping ourselves undistracted by the things of the world. It also means keeping ourselves holy, avoiding sin, overcoming temptations. It means conforming to the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ who said that we must deny ourselves, take up our crosses and follow Him.
Parents remain in the Lord's love by being good providers and examples to their children; while children remain in the Lord's love by giving honor and being respectful and obedient to their parents. Spouses remain in the Lord's love by being faithful to their partners. Leaders remain in the Lord's love by guiding their people to the Ultimate End; while followers remain in the Lord's love by being obedient to the lawful orders of their superiors. Teachers remain in the Lord's love by instructing their students about and in the light of the Truth; students remain in the Lord's love by diligence in studies and applying what they learn in order to live in accordance with the Truth. Doctors remain in the Lord's love by providing health not only of body but also of spirit to their patients; the sick remain in the Lord's love by taking necessary care for their bodies and preparing themselves to face the certainty of death when it comes. Lawyers remain in the Lord's love by defending the innocent; suspects remain in the Lord's love by sustaining their fight and accepting even injustice as part of God's plans.
There are many ways of remaining in the Lord's love. But one important thing is that we should really love one another so that when trials and troubles come, we may not be easily overcome and fall away from His love, because we shall find strength in one another.
