JESUS OUR LORD PREACHING THE GOSPEL. Image via google.com |
"Anyone who gives you a cup of water to drink because
you belong to Christ, amen, I say to you,
will surely not lose his reward."
It is necessary that we follow the Lord's command to love one another so that the world may know that we are His followers and friends for this is how others will be inspired and moved to belong to His Church. This is also the way by which those who will show generosity to us who are His followers and friends would get their due reward for God will never be outdone in generosity. We are supposed to be God's channels of blessings to others.
Many times we fail to become channels of blessings for generous non-Christians by not being true Christians, that is, by not acknowledging Christ our Lord in what we say or do, through which they could also praise Him, share in accordance with the inspiration for having met a Christian, and gaining the reward due to them when they provide us assistance or anything to help us in our ministry or perhaps even in our daily life. For other people may give because they are naturally good or because they want us to be led into their own religion or beliefs. So since the only true measure of goodness is God himself, the goodness or generosity of others must be measured in accordance with the goodness of God - for there will be people who would not provide assistance to us if they discover that we are Christians - in fact, they might even persecute us!
Many times too we seem to be uncomfortable in showing our Christianity, thinking erroneously that we would be branded as good only because we are bragging about being Christians, when in fact, we really ought to be more than good, we ought to be holy, and that we ought to brag about it not by mere talk but by deeds because we are Christians. If we keep our Christianity secret, how could we proclaim Christ to others and how would others know, believe and praise Him? How could others gain the reward due to them if we do not let them know that we are Christians - not necessarily by talking about it but by loving one another!
May we never be ashamed in living out our Christian way of life in order to lead others to the knowledge and love of God. This way, those who shall show us generosity would be richly rewarded by God for their kindness and perhaps be led to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved.
